Blind

I chose to blindfold myself. With my new disability, I figured venturing around town wasn’t the best option, so I set up camp in the green house in my garden. Here I spent an hour living the life of a blind man.
At first, it wasn’t that unpleasant all together. The sun was shining (Well, that I can’t really be sure of. In other words, it was warm) and I could hear the birds singing outside, the wind caressing the leaves of the trees and the neighbors children playing next door. I slowly adjusted to the idea that the world was going on about its business, without me and my eyes observing. It was almost a religious experience. I had to believe the things were still there, even though I could not see them with my own eyes. Perhaps most blind people are religious, or maybe most religious people simply are blind. Who knows?
After this period of time, it had been about half an hour, the state of blindness seamed much less appealing to me. While I sat in the green house, I started hearing something approaching me. Small paws on the wooden floor. I quickly recognized the sound of cat. Whether or not it was my own cat however, I had no way of telling. I know that a cat can’t really harm me, but the essence of the experience was actually quite frightening to me. The cat had full visibility and knew exactly how I looked, while I was in the dark in regards to the cats’ identity. It felt like one of those one-way mirrors in police interrogation rooms.  Unknown people are looking at you, and you simply do not know.

Eventually I found out, that it was my cat, but this feeling stayed with me for a while. From this experience I will certainly say, that I am truly happy for my sight.
