Being blind

When you are blind it is very important to either have someone to help you navigate or to be somewhere familiar.
The desperation comes easily, so it is very important to remember to relax and that it is only temporarily.
The most special experience was when I ate. All of the other senses became sharper and more awake. You become very aware of the taste and form of the food.
However, my best experience was when I sat on the terrace. It was so relaxing. I could not rely on my sight, so I was forced to listen, feel and hear. I noticed all kind of sounds; both birds and the sound of rush hour in inner city.
All in all, it was a very special feeling to be blind. At first, your eyes are open. They keep looking around, even though there is nothing to see. They try to adjust to the dark. I could almost feel my pupils dilating. Then your eyes start to relax and accept that darkness is all there is.
I was amazed by how quick it felt natural. I was of course at home the whole time, so I was not in an uncomfortable environment.
